The DT Swiss Champion plain gauge spokes used were substandard, and micro pitting of the spoke surface would always lead to early spoke breakage. Always. Yes, always. We strongly doubt that many of these fine wheelsets are still rolling in their original state!In the end I complained to DT Swiss since Giant had made such a big deal about the wheels being developed with them. DT Swiss had the wheels looked at and determined the spoke tension was too loose - they replaced them all and rebuilt the wheel at no cost to me. Take from that what you will. Great bike, poor wheels. Trail riding and very limited air time saw the rear hub shed its pawls and disintegrate after less than 6 months and 30 rides. I would estimate tops 500 miles. Spokes & Nipples -
My previous set was about 250g lighter, but flexed and waved around on climbs and sprints.The R-1900 (yes, they weigh 1900g - MORE with cassette, tyres and skewers!) is robust and SO stiff that they actually climb BETTER on 95% of my training routes.
